El año pasado encontré este libro por casualidad. Se titula "El maestro de las Burujas. Alquimia y arte culinario en una mágica novela de Zamonia" y su autor es Walter Moers.
He de decir que hacía mucho que una novela no me atrapaba tanto. En los últimos años se están publicando toneladas de libros de temática fantástica y a menudo se repiten temas. Sin embargo, este libro tiene algo especial, es una historia muy original, diferente a todas las otras novelas de fantasía que he leído.
Se trata de una historia divertida y oscura a la vez, llena de momentos de tensión, que te mantienen en vilo hasta el final.
El protagonista es Eco, un "grato" (especie de gato que puede hablar con cualquier ser vivo y que tiene dos hígados) que, al morir su dueña, se encuentra abandonado en las calles de Sledwaya, la ciudad más deprimente y enferma de todo el mundo de Zamonia.
El pobre Eco está en grave apuro ya que va a morir de hambre. Es entonces cuando se cruza en su camino Eisspin, el malvado y terrible maestre de Burujas, uno de los malos más retorcidos y crueles que he podido conocer en la literatura fantástica, y al mismo tiempo, fascinante.
Eisspin gobierna la ciudad desde su lúgubre castillo, propagando el terror y todo tipo de dolencias sobre sus habitantes. Este malvado mago y alquimista le propondrá a Eco un horrible trato: durante un mes lo alimentará con los más exquisitos manjares culinarios, pero al acabarse el mes, matará a Eco, para sacarle las mantecas y hacer con él un espeluznante experimento.
El pobre Eco, pensando que de todas formas va a morir de hambre en las calles, acepta el trato y se marcha a vivir al castillo con este siniestro personaje...

Last year I found this book by chance. It is entitled "The Alchemaster's Apprentice: A Novel" and its author is Walter Moers.
I must say that it had been long since I had been catched by a novel so much. In recent years, tons of fantasy-themed books are being published and they often repeat their themes. However, this book has something special, it´s a very original story, unlike any other fantasy novel I´ve read.
This is a story funny and dark at the same time, full of tense moments that keep you in suspense until the end. The main character is Echo, a "Crat" (a kind of cat that can talk to any living thing and has two livers) that after the death of his owner, finds himself abandoned on the streets of Malaisea, the most depressing and sick city in the world of Zamonia.
The poor Echo is in serious trouble: he is starving to death. It is then when he crosses his path with Ghoolion, an evil alchemist, one of the most twisted and cruel villains that I've ever found in fantasy literature, and at the same time, fascinating.
Ghoolion governs the city from his gloomy castle, spreading terror and all kinds of afflictions about its inhabitants. The evil magician and alchemist proposes Echo a horrible deal: for a month he will feed him with the most exquisite culinary delicacies, but at the end of the month, he will kill Echo to boil down his fat to make a scary experiment.
Poor Echo, thinking that anyway he will starve in the streets, accepts the deal and goes to live in the castle with this sinister character...
If you want to discover the strangest and most hilarious, amazing and fantastic dishes, with which Ghoolion will try to fatten Echo; if you want to meet lots of strange characters, sinister stories, unexpected alchemical secrets, and discover if Eco is smart and resourceful enough to escape the clutches of Ghoolion, do not hesitate...
